Role model

image: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Oprah_Winfrey_%282004%29.jpg

Oprah Winfey became my role model after i watched her show religiously since i was young. She did beat the odds. You can read her biography in
Here are some facts extracted from wikipedia:
Winfrey was called "arguably the world's most powerful woman" by CNN and Time.com.[49] and arguably the most influential woman in the world by the American Spectator.[50]
Time named Winfrey one of the 100 people who most influenced the 20th century, as well as one of the 100 most influential people of 2004, 2005, 2006, and again in 2007.Winfrey is the only person in the world to have made all five lists.
At the end of the 20th century Life listed Winfrey as both the most influential woman and the most influential black person of her generation, and in a cover story profile the magazine called her "America's most powerful woman".[51]
Ladies Home Journal also ranked Winfrey number one in their list of the most powerful women in America and senator Barack Obama has said she "may be the most influential woman in the country".[52]
In 1998 Winfrey became the first woman and first Black to top Entertainment Weekly's list of the 101 most powerful people in the entertainment industry.[53]
In 2003 Winfrey edged out both Superman and Elvis Presley to be named the greatest pop culture icon of all time by VH1.[54]
In 2005 Forbes named her the world's most powerful celebrity.[55]
One factor that i really admire about Oprah Winfey is that despite all the hardships of her childhood, Oprah fused on education, ambition and talent into a vehicle of success as she rose from a position of poverty and a disadvantaged youth to become one of the most successful woman in America.
Sometimes i wonder, does a disadvantaged childhoold build a strong character in a person? Does too much love and privilages spoil the child? Something to think about heh?

I love this phone! It has everything i need but most importantly mp3 and bluetooth. But i must say the camera is good as it is 2 megapixel. However, theres one downside; the headphones provided are not comfy. Other than that it is perfect! i rate it 4 out 5 :)

Birthdays!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SINGAPORE!!! You are 42 years old:) Love ya!
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Have you ever celebrated 3 birthdays in a day? Well, i have! On the 8th Aug, me and my classmates celebrated fahdli's b'day by odering pizzas. We were having a party in class=P. At night, me and my girlfriends gave ruqaiyah a surprise by popping into her house! I must say the plan worked very well because she didnt expect it at all. Tas and i got her a mug with 3D boobs and a helium balloon which read, 'Happy Birthday'. Unfortunately, it was kind of deflated when she received it.(sigh) Then on the very next day, it was Singapore's bday! This year it was held in Marina Bay. Something different heh? The parade looked cool on tv though.

On wednesday, i had a interesting communications lesson. The topic was 'Keep it quiet, keep it private.' It was about personal and shared spaces. For instance, do you know that while you are reading my blog, im sharing my personal space? lol. Kinda lame though. But sometimes we are unaware of our actions. It's alright for me to have a blog cause i dont really blog about my secrets. I blog about open issues or general stuff i have experienced in the day=P.

Pacesetter

I had Pacesetter basic make-up course early this morning. I must say it was more fun than last week's session as this was more focused on the practical application unlike last week's which was theory. ( plus, i was sick:/). We had to apply makeup on our partner (Vaishna, of course! heehe) starting with the foundation, concealer and than the loose powder. My face felt so thick and cakey after that but that was supposed to be normal. I guess im was not used to makeup yet:D The best part was the eye makeup..When i was curling Vaishna's eyelashes, i was a bit rough and didnt release the springe carefully. She screamed after that! Thank god i didnt pluck out her eyelashes! hahahhaahaha. Anyways, i felt like some sort of painter with all the wide range of brushes. But eye makeup is so much fun.i enjoyed playing with the colours;) Vaishna did pinkish tones for me while i did purple tones for her. After the entire session, i quickly cleansed my face and removed the makeup as i was not comfortable with wearing thick makeup and furthermore my skin is sensitive to the ingredients in these products. But i had so much fun!!!

Okay it will sound weird if i say this but i cant blog unless im offline.Well, the problem here is that i dont have wireless connection yet and im still using the cable connection. So, i cant get the inspiration to type on my desk. It sounds weird though. I cant wait to get the wireless!

Oh yeah, i have to share this with you guys..dont you find hindi serials kinda lame? i mean really lame and faggy? No offence but when i watch those i feel sorry for the lead role's character. I mean they always have a bleak future no matter what. Then, with their typical storylines where there are double roles and the usual bickering of the saas-bahus.. And the series carries on for years with millions of episodes. I mean seriously for those of you who do watch, i want to know a very good reason why you have a keen interest. So far there have been only 2 serials which i have to rule out for their originality and simplicity; Astitva and Viruddh. Other than that the majority are really LAME. Let me tell you the flaws
1. they dress up so glamorously( even when the scence is taking place in the house.
2. Heavy make-up (even on patients, cmon spare them at least)
3. the special effects (esp the ones where they zoom on the faces with the irritating music, they are a pain in the a**)
4. its always the same house! (hello! the audience are not dumb!)
5. the filmi lines (they do not work anymore)
i can list alot more but these are the obvious ones. I bet you would agree with me too..my objective is simple: BE REALISTIC

By the way, I HAVE FINISHED READING HARRY POTTER! ITS DAMN NICE!:)it was really an awesome book. The best so far, to me at least;)

To Tasnim bhen: I will give you the best present..i have a brilliant idea! But im not the spilling the beans here..you gotta wait:P

Wohooo...the topic for cognitive today is reflections and guess what? The facilitator told us to reflect by playing a game ( im gonna play need for speed;) Of course, we have to the basics for the first meeting which is to present our ideas. However, in 3rd meeting we are supposed to reflect on the game which we have played. Cool huh? Cant wait to get back on track on NFS!lol

Movie marathon

It was a 'movie-marathon' weekend and i watched 2 great movies, 'Stomp the yard', ' Pursuit of happyness' and 'Saw I & II (thanks to Vaishna and Ben:P) The movies were fantastic with a great storyline and plot. However, i must say i learnt a couple of valuable lessons (excluding Saw of coz=D).
Let me give you a brief outline of the movies..

'.....Stomp the Yard centers around DJ Williams, a college student at a fictional historically Black university who pledges to join a fictional Greek-letter fraternity. The film's central conflict involves DJ's fraternity competing in various stepping competitions against a rival fraternity from the same school. The movie ended with the a quote which seemed to fit the pieces of the storyline perfectly.
'Intelligence plus character-that is the goal of true education.' - Dr. Martin Luther King.Jr
I understood this very well. Many view the term 'Education' differently. We all have different perceptions on learning. LOL. I realised this was the RJ question for cognitive process for problem 12:P Anyway, i do not believe that getting all As will make you successful in the future. It might, but its not definite. Your mindset, character and how you get hold of opportunities are just as important too. Oh yeah on the lighter note, Chris Brown and Ne-yo are in this movie too, so if you are a fan of them, you might want to check this out:)
The pursuit of happyness was another great inspirational movie. Here is the outline of the movie:
...'While it is based on the true story of Christopher Gardner, a family man struggling to make ends meet, the film takes some liberties with Gardner's actual story. Starring Will Smith as Chris Gardner and Smith's real-life son Jaden Christopher Syre Smith as Gardner's son Christopher, The Pursuit of Happyness follows Gardner's struggles to break into the stock brokerage business as an intern, despite a rocky financial situation.'

Okay, my team showed a clip from this movie on the job interview scene. I wanted to watch the entire movie because Will Smith is one of my fav actor ;) It was really an inspirational movie but i feel that it was stressing on the importance of interpersonal skills too.
Hmm...Saw its not an inspirational movie at all but it is sure gruesome. If you happen to watch Scary Movie 4 and remember the scene where a man is cutting his feet and a freaky-looking dummy riding on a bicycle...well it was taken from Saw. Okay, this movie is damn good okay? so catch it if you can. i still have not seen Saw III. However, i reckon that its gonna be more horrifying and gruesome than the first two. I saw the first 10 mins of it thought, the first murder was already very bloody and grisly. I didnt continue watching coz i was having fever. I will catch it on Wednesday or smth coz there is no school=)
Okay, i will end here coz i have to read the notes for cognitive UT tom and im starving too.LOL
