follow-up, that's all it takes;)

Follow up. That was what i learned in sales management class today. In sales, the term 'follow-up' means to thank the customers by extending your customer service, get feedback about your product and service and give complimentary gifts or promotions. The main objective is to get new customers and retain the old customers and not loose them.

As important the customers are to the company and the organisation, the people around us are equally important too. We should follow-up and thank them for their presence in our lives. For all those people i spend most of my days with ya..i love you guys lots!
I will always the cherish the times we had together!

Each friend represents a world in us, a world possibly not born until they arrive, and it is only by this meeting that a new world is born."

An inspiring movie..

Last night i watched a Hindi Art film called Dor. It is amazing how a movie can touch the principles in life. Compared to the popular sugar coated hypocritical movies, this was more realistic and convincing. The main message of the movie is to to have the freedom of making our own decisions, considering the consequences. It made me pause and look into the mirror I live in.
Apart from the storyline, the screenplay and the cinematography was amazing. The background music also adds along well without being too overbearing.
Dor is definitely worth watching!

Last day at work

Yesterday was my last day at work. I worked there for almost 6 months! The outlet closed down cause the rent increased twice as much. Damnn, I'm gonna miss that place. I will miss eating those donuts from Donut Factory. The usual chicken rice from Fork and Spoon. Above all, Surf 'n' Rider which is two shops away. I always passed my time in there browsing when i reached early for work.
Yeah, so officially I'm jobless right now. But i don't think I'm gonna hunt for another job cause i will wait till my manager would be relocated to another place. Till then, i need to spice up my holidays!

Photography;)

Photography is my new hobby, woots!!
I have to admit, I'm not skilled yet cause i just started it out. However, I'm still learning the apps in Photoshop. My dad just gave me his 5.1 mega pixels camera. However, I'm definitely getting the high definition camera when i visit my uncle in KL during my holidays!

I took this just outside my window. The pixels are small cause i took it from my phone.
However, i edited it in Photoshop;)

Snapshots, baby!

This picture was taken at the beginning of this year. It is not really a fantastic snapshot but i took this from the 18th level and the bird eye view of the image turned out well. But there's too much emphasis on the sky though! Argh, i think i have a fetish for clouds!

This picture was taken in the RP campus. I was tempted to take it because the clouds were huge and fluffy. Huzaifa had just taught me about the techniques to snap a proper and actual picture. So, i decided to apply it. I'm pretty satisfied by this snapshot!

Every end is a new beginning..

As you all know, the most awesome series Gossip Girl season 1 has ended. Yes, it's devastating. The anticipation of waiting for the next episode and wondering of what is going to happen next has died. However, thanks to my classmate Yuhui, she got me addicted to g.t.a, which is awesome. Gosh! My testosterones are coming up again! HAHA
I must say, this shit is way better than CS.
Anyways, the place I'm working at is closing soon. So, i have to start looking around for a new job. I just realised that i have been working there for almost 6 months. As much as i am reluctant to leave, the thought of hunting for another job seems exciting.

As the saying goes, 'What appears to be the end may really be a new beginning.'

Till then, Ciao!

Revolution of mobile phones

The video clip shows mobile phones - from 1985 till today - morph into one another in chronological order. It's interesting to see how little the basic design of the things has changed.

When you least expect it

You know the saying, 'things always happen when you least expect it'? well that what's happening for the past couple of days. Like starting from Saturday. It was taher's party. and i was kind of lazy to go cause i had to go shopping for formal clothes for formal presentation on Monday. At the same time, i had to get my eyebrows done. So i went to the twin's place. I didn't end up shopping cause i borrowed at top from them. Since Zahra and ruqaiyah were going and i had nothing on, i changed my mind and decided to go for the party instead. I must say i didn't regret that decision cause i had lots of fun! I saw my ex-gujju school classmate, Anand, who went abroad to India to complete his O's and A's.
Then, Sunday was boring cause i had work from 3-8pm. I only sold 6 pairs of shoes that day. My worst sales ever. On top of that, no hot guys walked into the shop. sigh.
Ah, but at night, my classmate, Jessica told me that like no one is turning up for class tomorrow. And a bunch of them will be hanging out in Celine's house instead. No matter how tempting it was, i told myself nahh i will go for class to to get the experience.
When i woke up today morning, i didnt feel like going to school altogether. It was like a gut feeling that if i went, it would all end to be nothing. Guess what, only 2 of my classmates showed up!
It was fun hanging out with my classmates. The 7 of us. Had lots of fun! I'm lazy to type so i'm not gonna elaborate.
But yeah in a nutshell, all i wanna say is not everything happens according to a plan. Sometimes, you have to go with the flow and you will realize that things will fall into place nicely.
Till then, little rodents!

Imagine The Reality of Facebook

Imagine if Facebook is applied in the real world. This is a hilarious video clip on the reality of Facebook.

http://www.idiotsofants.com

It's all in your hands..

I woke up up half an hour late for school. I missed the bus. Even got held up in a traffic jam. And had to fight my way through hundreds of students making their way to school. The best part: I managed to reach school on time. Exactly 5 minutes before class. Thank goodness! I even set my alarm at 8.30 so i would know whether i would be late.
Why am i so uptight about being late for one day for class? Simple theory: Marked late and -0.5 gpa for that day. Yeah that's my school's solution for reducing the number of latecomers. Well, it's a pain in the ass but it's effective.
This post goes to Tas the Velma, for inspiring me to write about something about my day! :D

keyboard shortcut of Microsoft 2007

This is an awesome tip i came across when i was surfing lifehacker.
1. Open any Microsoft Office program and file.
2. Press the Alt-key
3. Hit on one of those alphabets
4. Hit one of those letters and you drill down to the next level within the first, continuing until you find the command you want.
5.If you find you've hit an errant key, you can always go back up a level by hitting the escape key.

An iPhone copy isn't it? When pressed during the Q&A about the striking similarity to the little Cupertino device, Anssi Vanjoki -- Nokia's Executive VP & General Manager of Multimedia -- said, "If there is something good in the world then we copy with pride." It's out in the market.

A toast to friendship:)

Last night, i just finished watching Veronica Mars. The juicy highlights would be the choice of Veronica's next eligible boyfriend between Logan and Dunkin. However, the main push factor for me to keep watching was the admiration i had for Veronica's and Wallace's friendship. Whatever, it was they stood by each other.
Therefore, i dedicate this post to my friends who were there for me in those difficult times. The fact that we believed that, 'Honesty is the best policy'. I will always cherish it! Thanks to those two for being my amazing friends!

An unforgettable experience...

My first attempt with a complete set of drums! I have always wanted to learn how to play drums and finally today i learnt from the basics from an experienced drummer. He started out at 19. So i guess it's not too late eh? haha. The band was practising for the upcoming jamconcert in the evening, so me and huzaifa walked up to the stage to try out. It was worth it!

emo? whateva

Image by Selen Yuruk on DevianArt

Today was my first day as a volunteer for SFF. Frankly, this was my first event which was super strict on dress code. We had to wear all black and formal. God knows how i managed to pull off my outfit within a short notice of 24 hours. Thankfully, Fion lent me her black heels and thank god we have the same feet size! However i had to forgo my facial appointment coz i had spent that portion of my savings on my outfit. But the bottom line; i still get my CE points and the experience. so im going for it:)There's no turning back anyways.
Oh yea i think it's time to pen down on what i'm feeling. Sometimes i hate to be responsible and be expected to act like an adult. Being 17 makes me feel like as if i'm 27 years old. Bills, debt, chores and god knows what. Maybe i'm just going through a mid-life crisis at the age of 17 or maybe i have to fulfill people's expectations to earn respect. Whatever it is, i don't wanna grow up too fast. Right now, only my horoscope is being optimistic. 'If you're down, you're pretty far down, but you can tell it won't be long before you start to pick yourself back up.' Thanks a bunch. I really need that.

New look:)

Today, for the first time when i came across my blog, i knew i had to do something right away. I mean, I liked my previous layout and blogskin, however it wasn't me. I felt that my blog has to be contingent on the kind of a person i am at that point of time. So i got rid of the girly pink layout and brought in a simple blogger template instead. My playlist and the images i showcase from devianART reflects what i'm going through and defines who i am;) There are going to be alot more changes. So stay tune!

confession of a shopaholic

On Tuesday, march 17, my girlfriends and i went to watch Step up 2. It was really an awesome movie and the dancing was perfect. gosh, how i wished i could dance like that.haha. Unfortunately, i have two left feet. well at least i think so. i have never really danced before. After the movie, jumana had other plans so she had to leave. So me, zahra and ruqaiyah went shopping! I bought this great pair of off-white skinnies, shoes (me and zahra bought the same pair.hehe) and a spagetti top. Even though, i had zero balance left and didnt have cash to pay for transportation fees. i didn't regret on what i purchased. Especially the skinnies:D
So much for retail therapy;)

damn machine!

i would never ever forget the experience i had yesterday. i went to the bank to deposit 50 bucks into my account. Apparently, the bank was closed because it was a Sunday, so i decided to deposit it into the 'deposit cash' machine. Well, just my luck, the damn machine had to shut down at that point of time. So yeah, my 50 bucks was trapped inside. Fortunately, this helpful man alerted me to call the customer service hotline. The officer apologised for the inconvenience caused and assured me that the bank would deposit my money back into my account by today afternoon. Phew!
Note to self: never ever use the machine to deposit cash. i rather join the queue in the bank and deposit manually.

Breakaway

Breakaway by kellyclarkson
Grew up in a small town
And when the rain would fall down
I'd just stare out my window
Dreaming of what could be
And if I'd end up happy
I would pray (I would pray)

Trying hard to reach out
But when I tried to speak out
Felt like no one could hear me
Wanted to belong here
But something felt so wrong here
So I prayed I could break away

[Chorus:]
I'll spread my wings and I'll learn how to fly
I'll do what it takes til' I touch the sky
And I'll make a wish
Take a chance
Make a change
And breakaway
Out of the darkness and into the sun
But I won't forget all the ones that I love
I'll take a risk
Take a chance
Make a change
And breakaway

Wanna feel the warm breeze
Sleep under a palm tree
Feel the rush of the ocean
Get onboard a fast train
Travel on a jet plane, far away (I will)
And breakaway

[Chorus]

Buildings with a hundred floors
Swinging around revolving doors
Maybe I don't know where they'll take me but
Gotta keep moving on, moving on
Fly away, breakaway

I'll spread my wings
And I'll learn how to fly
Though it's not easy to tell you goodbye
I gotta take a risk
Take a chance
Make a change
And breakaway
Out of the darkness and into the sun
But I won't forget the place I come from
I gotta take a risk
Take a chance
Make a change
And breakaway, breakaway, breakaway

Just what i'm feeling and experiencing.period.

Are you ready to step up??

Happy International Women's day!

About International Women's Day
International Women's Day has been observed since in the early 1900's, a time of great expansion and turbulence in the industrialized world that saw booming population growth and the rise of radical ideologies.

The new millennium has witnessed a significant change and attitudinal shift in both women's and society's thoughts about women's equality and emancipation. Many from a younger generation feel that 'all the battles have been won for women' while many feminists from the 1970's know only too well the longevity and ingrained complexity of patriarchy. With more women in the boardroom, greater equality in legislative rights, and an increased critical mass of women's visibility as impressive role models in every aspect of life, one could think that women have gained true equality. The unfortunate fact is that women are still not paid equally to that of their male counterparts, women still are not present in equal numbers in business or politics, and globally women's education, health and the violence against them is worse than that of men.

However, great improvements have been made. We do have female astronauts and prime ministers, school girls are welcomed into university, women can work and have a family, women have real choices. And so the tone and nature of IWD has, for the past few years, moved from being a reminder about the negatives to a celebration of the positives.

Annually on 8 March, thousands of events are held throughout the world to inspire women and celebrate their achievements. While there are many large-scale initiatives, a rich and diverse fabric of local activity connects women from all around the world ranging from political rallies, business conferences, government activities and networking events through to local women's craft markets, theatric performances, fashion parades and more.

embracing the change..

For the past week, i couldn't help but notice how much things have changed over a year. and i mean MAJOR changes. Well, this hasnt got to do with me only, it involves everything. Like last year at this point of time around Feb-March, i was jobless, had no idea what was i was going to become in life, had no fashion sense, different taste of music (well, now i appreciate older artistes:p). well now its pretty different.
For example, Singapore is hosting the Youth Olympics 2010. thats one mega event heh? now, that's what i mean. Things are not like what were they before. Do you think 10-15 years ago, Singapore was this progressive and different?
It's not like im complaining. Things are changing for the good....and im really glad:)

Accept the fact and make a difference

Fast Food Nation
I'm really glad i saw this movie. I don't know whether it is released in the theatres in Singapore. But i rented out the DVD instead. After seeing this movie, im never going to eat fast food ever again. And i mean it. One of the horrifying facts i learnt from the movie was that due to the increase of speed in the production line, the workers are not able to clean the meat properly. The bottom line? Crap in the patty!
'...the relentless pressure resulting from the speed of the disassembly line. The faster this moves, the greater the profitability of the slaughterhouse (the three meatpacking giants - IBP, ConAgra and Excel - try to maximise their profits by maximizing the volume of production at each plant), but also the greater the likelihood of injuries to the workers.'
Sadly, the biggest consumers of fast companies are children and young adults.
'...This competition for young customers has led the fast food chains to form marketing alliances with toy companies, sports leagues and Hollywood studios. McDonald's has staged promotions with the NBA and the Olympics. Pizza Hut, Taco Bell and KFC signed a three year deal with the NCAA. Burger King and Nickelodeon and McDonald's and the Fox Kids Network have formed partnerships that mix advertisements for fast food with children's entertainment. Burger King has sold chicken nuggets shaped like Teletubbies.' The result? The rise of obesity in kids.
There are so much more horrifying facts to learn about. I highly recommend you to catch this movie or even better, read the novel.

Action speaks louder than words. To make a difference, join participate.net and join virtual marches. Recently, i joined 'Stop Global Warming Virtual March'. It aims movement to demand our leaders freeze and reduce carbon dioxide emissions. There are many more movements you can participate in. You can catch videos and check out blogs too.

Oh yea, no more fast food for me! :P

Let's talk about $$$

I have to come to realise that it's time to save money. I have worked and earned before, however this time im taking the responsibility of paying my own bills and personal shopping. Furthermore, i have set a goal to go overseas at the end of the year at my own expenses. However, the big question is how do i start saving? Fortunately, i came across an article in the CLEO mag on 'Clever Tricks in the Smart Girl's Guide to money'. Sebastian Song, the writer of this article gives 2 tips:
Money tip #1: Prepare for a rainy day
He says, "Looking at the current lifestyles of the youth, I can tell that many of them are living for the present and not planning of the future." Hell yeah, i fall under that category. He continues, "The amount spent must not exceed your budgeted expenditure."
Money tip #2: Ponder, then pay.
Before you troop to the cashier to pay for your latest purchase, take at least a minute to think it through. Is it time you actually need or merely want? Excercising mindfulness helps eliminate impulse buys. Crap, i have experienced this so many times. Just recently, I bought a tub of hair mask from the Body Shop and a tube of lip gloss along with it. After that i asked myself, was the lip gloss really necessarey? I have tons at home. Yikes! If only i had read this sooner..
This tips are really helpful though! ;)

An email that is worth sharing

Reason, Season or Lifetime
People always come into your life for a reason, a season, or a lifetime.
When you figure out which it is, you know exactly what to do.

When someone is in your life for a REASON,
it is usually to meet a need you have expressed outwardly or inwardly.
They have come to assist you through a difficulty,
or to provide you with guidance and support,
to aid you physically, emotionally, or even spiritually.
They may seem like a godsend to you, and they are.
They are there for the reason you need them to be.

Then, without any wrong doing on your part or at an inconvenient time,
this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end.

Sometimes they die. Sometimes they just walk away.
Sometimes they act up or out and force you to take a stand.
What we must realize is that our need has been met, our desire fulfilled; their work is done.
The prayer you sent up has been answered and it is now time to move on.

When people come into your life for a SEASON,
it is because your turn has come to share, grow, or learn.
They may bring you an experience of peace or make you laugh.
They may teach you something you have never done.
They usually give you an unbelievable amount of joy.
Believe it! It is real! But, only for a season.
And like Spring turns to Summer and Summer to Fall,
the season eventually ends.
...
LIFETIME relationships teach you lifetime lessons;
those things you must build upon in order to have a solid emotional foundation.
Your job is to accept the lesson, love the person/people (anyway);
and put what you have learned to use in all other relationships and areas in your life.

So many things to do but so little time!

movies i want to see: Fast food nation, Kite runner
tv shows i want to see: Gossip Girls, Heroes season 2
Books im reading/ wanna read: The Age of Innocence by Edith Wharton, Digital Fortress by Dan Brown and Shopoholic series by Sophie Kinsella
but theres so little time damn it! I have just started reading the Age of Innocence. Its about the conflict between the claims of tradition and those of individual freedom. Its actually a literature novel coz it was written in the 19th century. Sometimes, i have to read the content a few times because its difficult to comprehend some of the words. But so far, its awesome:)

The Rape of Nanking: The Forgotten Holocaust of World War II
I just finished reading this book and i have to say it was really an eye-opener of the sino-Japanese war. The author Iris Chang did a research and proved something of what the world thought was fabricated. Personally, i think the Chinese civillians were even totured more brutually than the Jews under the Nazi treatment. It was so gruesome that i had to put down the book for a moment to breathe especially at the descriptions of the rape of women. It is not an autobiography, it's non-fiction. However, the author throws in a couple of personal accounts. One inspiring account was from John Rabe, a leader of a Nazi party who even had contacts with Hitler. He was known as the "Anne Frank of Nanking". The accounts are in 3 different perspectives: Japanese, Chinese and the Westerners who helped the Chinese civillians at that period of time. However one thing still bothers me. Germany was made to pay reparations after world war I (West Germany had to pay a sum of 3 bilion marks to Israel over the next 14 years. The reparation agreement ended at 2005). On the other hand, Japan didnt have to. Why?
If you want to find out more before reading the book, try this link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Rape_of_Nanking_(book)

2008-new year, a new beginning!

2008

2008 has just begun and its time to reflect on the past and look forward to the coming year. Its time to reflect on the changes we want and need to improve on ourselves! Therefore i came up with new year resolutions for this year that i would have to strictly follow.lol

1)Exercise and stay fit
exercise keeps you healthy and makes you look and feel better!
2) Earn $$$
hallelujah i just got a part-time job!
3) increase my GPA
4)grow my hair ;)
5) learn something new
By reading more books, maybe learning a new language and i was thinking of taking up yoga classes..hmmm
5) Get organized!

Above all else, I'm free
